Golden Summer

Summer weather around here is perfect even though it gets too hot which would in fact be the perfect weather for swimming but we only have a baby pool so its not too refreshing. And for our local pool its now $5 to get in and I really don't want to pay that much to go to the pool to go swimming for only 2hrs or less. But anyway time for summer golden hour sun flares!

We were leaving a soccer game and my sister handed me her camera and ran off to do who knows what and I wa-la, the golden hour happened! I took some pictures and got this one, with fairy dust magically coming from the sun.

And this one with a sun flare and some bokeh. I love it when that happens :)

I am hoping to participate in Scavenger Hunt Sunday tomorrow night but since I will be at a soccer tournament all day that I may or may not be playing in we will see what happens :)

Hungry The Kitten ~ FINALLY

Can you believe it?! Last week when I said mentioned that maybe I would finally have a mini photo shoot with Hungry I was really just kidding myself. There was no way that I would actually ever take the pictures or post them. But guess what. After I published that post last week I was like "okay, what do I do now?" 'cause it was the only day out of the whole week where I don't have soccer so I didn't really have a ton to do... Then Hungry started like climbing on me being naughty and I ended up taking pictures. Here we are 6 days later, almost a week since I have posted and I am actually sharing them. Go me!

So here he is. The first picture I ever took of him. or at least the first picture I ever took on purpose. I did take some accidental ones with my phone. Please don't be fooled with this picture. He is totally trying to look innocent.

Then slightly less innocent. Kind of menacing.

Then his true self. Little tough guy! Or so he thinks anyway...

And then back to little innocent kitten. He can change his facial expressions so quickly he can fool anybody.

So it may seem like I hate him or it may seem like I love him. and the answer is: BOTH. Its kind of like a love hate relationship. Kittens are adorable. Kittens are extremely naughty. But there is an excuse for all of that: He is just a kitten who misses all of his siblings that we sold to other people who needed/wanted a kitten. Anyway I love kittens, eye  boogers and all :)

Also I feel like I have to add this little story:
Last night I was reading about this Summer Solstice thing my town does every year and there was a newspaper on a little table right next to me and half of it was hanging over the edge of the table so there was nothing under it and and Hungry jumped on that part and went crashing to the floor (it was awesome) and then I kept re-setting the paper and luring him to that end and he just kept falling through and I was convinced that it was the funniest thing in the world. It was pretty funny.

They're all growed up! A is for Alissa and Alanna

Yes these first two pictures are the same chick! They grow up SO fast its unbelievable. In the first picture she is a week old, and in the second picture she is a month and two weeks old.

Now I will try to turn a super long story into a semi short one:
Me and one of my best friends are absolutely crazy and come up with some creepy and crazy things. I had the awesome idea to tell her that we named the baby goat that was born just that day after her (hint: I didn't really.) and she was like "What?! I am so honored!" Then I was kind of like oh...well I didn't really name a goat after her but she thinks that I did so what do I do since the goat already has a name? Name a chick after her of course! So I named my favorite chick after her and that was that. Meet Alissa!

An adorable buff orpington! She is so small still so she can squeeze through all of the little cracks, that basically means that she is the naughtiest!

Since I am so creative with coming up with new names for animals I decided to name this one Alanna after a 6 year old hen that I had since they look so much alike.

And once again, I re-used an old name. We had a awesome rooster who only lived to be a year or so old named Petey and this little guy looks a lot like he did so that is his name! He is also one of the very unfortunate roosters who never come out of their awkward stage.

I love flashbacks seeing how much they have grown! Soon(ish) I will most likely be selling all of the roosters and just keeping the hens.

P.S. We finally started building the chicken coop today! I am so so excited to finally be starting this project. I will have one main coop which will be bigger and then since I am so obsessed with having a really pretty coop with some really cool architecture we will be building a really small one to put in a pasture or something :)

Flowers with Different Angles

So tonight we went to a neighbors house me for a flower photo shoot for big sis to give a goat medicine and lil' sis just for fun. And then we ended up staying for hours grilling, eating, taking pictures and ended up having a ton of fun and it gave me the opportunity to get some fabulous photos and so here they are :)

I ended up getting pictures of the same flower from different angles and loved it for some reason so take a look at this...

From regular level, and from below.

From slightly above, and from way upside down and tilted back.

Up close, and far away. Some of the photos I got of the lilac buds got some amazing bokeh. So don't be surprised if more lilac photos come your way!

And then this one just for fun. I love this one. The super light almost white purple really caught my eye and then the other one fading into the background.

Now listen, these are only 7 of almost 300 pictures so I plan on doing a few posts with just pictures.

Naughty Robin Nest

Robins are my favorite bird (besides chickens!) because my big sister is so deathly scared of them. Like today she asked me to come outside with her so I could scare the robin on the nest away so she could take a picture or 12 but I told her to go and face her fears and do it herself and it turns out she did, kind of. She actually got our little sister to help her. Shame on you sister, for not being able to deal with birds by yourself!

Anyway, when it comes to little birds I am not the kind of person to freak out...or am I?

So because I am not scared of little birds I am able to get pictures without screaming bloody murder. So, sister, if you are reading this please comment letting me know if this makes me cooler then you. Danke.

Baby Chick Letters

Hello hello! It is time for more chick pictures, since I was actually able to get some good pictures. Also, some letters!

Dear Chicks: You 22 little babies are the cutest! And I was finally able to get some good pictures of you little guys :)

Dear Sunny Weather: Two days. That is the only sun we have had in the past two(ish) weeks. This is an extremely depressing "spring".

Dear chicken pens that have yet to be built: Its the weathers fault. I was totally looking forward to getting outside last week to see what I need to start building but it was raining and gross. And it is still raining and gross so it may be awhile...

Dear lighting by chick pen: You are wonderful! The top two photos in this post are fabulous (if I do say so myself!) all because if. So thank you!

Dear other chicks that I will be getting: The feed mill lady said you should hatch today or tomorrow so I can't wait!

Dear people who are reading this who think I am crazy for wanting to get more chicks: I have a perfectly good reason. Ever since last year I have desperately wanted some Buff Orpingtons, but I never got around to it. So even though I already have 22 chicks, I plan on getting 5 more. Don't judge.

Stormy Letters...

Dear weather: Really? Rain for the past week and now freezing rain, and then sometime today it is supposed to start snowing! 4-6 inches of snow in April should not be allowed.

Dear freezing rain: You made for some totally awesome pictures (and lots of them!). But since when is it nice to weigh down the trees so much that they snap, crack, break and make loud noises?

Dear Spring: I've been sending you letters for the past four weeks asking where you are and you have just decided not to respond? That is just plain rude.

Dear Blog Friends: If you have any blog posts with sun, flowers and green or just any Springy stuff, feel free to leave me the link so I can visit and pretend that Spring is actually coming.

Dear Wonderful Neighbor: On Tuesday you came by and said how sorry you were that you were way on vacation when our fire happened. Then you offered to give us two dozen baby chicks who were starting to hatch as you were talking. Oh my gosh! I was basically speechless as you can imagine. And managed to ask you what kind they were and when you said ameraucana/barred rock/rohde island red  mix I literally squealed. THANK YOU.

Dear baby chicks: Oh yayy!!! I am soo soo excited for you little guys! I basically haven't had any of you for a year, and even then it was only like 3 of you! I can't wait to have a zillion photo shoots :)

Dear Hens: The only reason you are still here is because you were in our 'hospital ward' in the basement when the fire happened. For that I am so happy :) And soon you will have little friends to play with!

Dear Pinterest: I love you.

Easter/Spring Letters

Hello! You may noticed that I redesigned my blog (again).
If you don't recall what it looked like maybe this will refresh your memory:

I liked it but I get bored with designs very quickly and feel the need to change them up.
So it is definitely a good thing that I can do all the html myself otherwise I would be spending a lot of money!
Anyway you can all go take a look around if you like, I am finally working on updating my about me page!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Spring: Thank you for finally being on your way. Almost all the snow is melted, there are hints of green, and the soccer fields are clear.

Dear Easter: You were a good one, it was very low-key but fun (and delicious). Thank you to my dad who had the brilliant idea to hide my candy in the vacuum.

Dear Soccer: Its almost time. We could go outside and play now but it would tear the fields up and we would get all muddy. Maybe next week?

Dear Cold: I hate being sick. I want to go outside and do stuff but I can't if I don't have any energy!

Dear Weather: You are supposed to get up in the 50's today. YAY! Even though I'm sick I will still go sit outside, and maybe read a book.

Goodbye Winter...

Dear Winter, you have been here since mid December. Snowing at a minimum once a week. I have taken many, many thousands of photos and have enjoyed your stay (most of it anyway). I am sorry to inform you that it is time for you to go, to move on until next Winter.

I am so so so (soo) ready for some color.
Flowers, warm and sunny days, hours and hours spent taking pictures, more warm and sunny days, huge thunderstorms which means rain which means no droughts this year!

Here are my hopeful last Winter pictures...

Farewell, Winter.
